iframe
Short form of inline
frame.
This denotes a frame that appears as a normal box within a document, but which
may contain data from entirely different web sites than the one the document
defining the iframe resides on.
This entails some problems: Pages from other domains can be included in one's
own documents in such a fashion that it looks like they resided on one's own
site (the so-called showcase effect). This would require to explicitly mark the
foreign content as such, e. g. with an appropriate headline that displays the
URL of the document being included.
The more severe problem appears when an iframe is
included into a document without it being visible, and subsequently additional
content is loaded, for example JavaScript that performs further actions
unnoticed by the user. This way one could palm off malicious code on other
users without them noticing.
